From poll workers to truck drivers, the Maricopa County Elections Department is consistently hiring paid temporary workers to support elections in Maricopa County. While our hiring needs change depending on the size of the election, we would welcome Maricopa County voters to join us and work elections!
Become A Poll Worker
One of the greatest parts of being a Poll Worker is having the opportunity to meet and assist people in your community. Poll Workers are trained to provide ballots to voters and ensure the integrity of in person voting in Maricopa County. You can help support and ensure a fair and safe elections by serving as a Poll Worker at a voting location near you.
Positions
Inspector – Team Lead
Responsible for delegating the tasks of other Poll Workers, ensuring workers clock in and out properly. Provide assistance to voters. Responsible for making sure that each and every voter is able to cast their ballot privately and securely.
Judge
Backup for Inspector. Charged with the same responsibilities as Inspector. Assists with check in process and supports Curbside Voting and use of Accessible Voting Devices while monitoring the Ballot Drop-Off and Tabulator.
Marshal
Announces the opening and closing of the polls. Preserves order at the polls with line management during high-volume cycles. Measures length of wait time throughout the day and may perform additional duties of other Poll Workers on a relief basis.
Clerk
Provides the correct ballots and provisional ballots and receipts to the correct voter. Ensures all provisional ballots are “W” folded prior to providing ballot and verifies affidavit envelopes are signed by voters. Stocks paper, ballot paper and affidavit envelope printers. Responsible for other functions such as sanitizing frequently touched surfaces.
Voter Registration Clerk
Assists Voters with updating their name or address in the SiteBook as needed. May assist with verifying that proper identification is possessed by voters. Certification is vital for this position to properly register voters.
Troubleshooter
Attends and assists team with setting up locations. Maintains communication with Trouble-shooter Hotline and Inspector. Assists with any issues that arise. Runs supplies to assigned polling locations. Reports on the job issues to the Troubleshooter Hotline.

Early Voting & Tabulation Positions
UOCAVA Clerk
The UOCAVA Clerk is a multitasker, who works with high-volume, time sensitive work. They will be responsible for assisting military and overseas voters to register to vote, process requests for an early ballot and instruct voters how to send/receive ballot materials through the secure UOCAVA portal. They must possess professional communications skills (verbal and written), as well as have advanced computer skills.
Job Duties
- Provide excellent communication skills via telephone and email.
- Assist military and overseas voters to register to vote; request early ballots; process returned ballots via secure portal, fax, mail, email.
- Ability to multitask and manage a high volume of various tasks that are time sensitive work
- Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software and learn specialized computer programs

Ballot Processors
Ballot Processors prepare ballots for the Ballot Tabulation Center and are required to work with a partner who is of a different political party than themselves. Ballot Processors are attentive to detail and handle high volumes of time sensitive paperwork, accounting-oriented work environment.
Job Duties
- Works with a partner in bi-partisan teams of two.
- Opens, verifies, and accurately counts ballots.
- Prepares, balances, and manages all ballot-related paperwork.

- Ability to lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist a minimum of 25 pounds and carry for 100 feet.

Special Election Board
The Special Election Board staff will partner with a team member from a differing political party to provide services to voters. These services are focused on facilitating voting for those who are confined due to illness or disability.
Job Duties
- The teams are paired into bipartisan board to travel throughout Maricopa County.
- Responsible for providing services and assistance to voters that are ill, disabled, or confined to their personal residence or assisted living facility.
- Perform outreach to facilities such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Signature Verification/Ballot Flagging Clerk
The Signature Verification/Ballot Flagging Clerk will participate in reviewing signatures on the mail in early ballot packets according to standardized processes and procedures. The clerks must be detail oriented and handle high volumes of time sensitive tasks. The clerks will assist in performing curing activities and completing data entry for voter requests. This position requires strong computer skills.
Job Duties
- Provide excellent communication skills via telephone.
- Utilizes Elections software to verify voter signatures on affidavit envelopes with records.
- Analyzes signatures and performs other research such as contacting voters directly to ensure the efficacy of mail-in ballot processing.
- Responsible for performing curing responsibilities by contacting voters via phone and mail.
- Assisting with sorting mail and data entry.

- Working on a computer for up to 8 hours a day.
- Ability to lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist a minimum of 25 pounds and carry for 100 feet.

Mail Room Clerk
The Mail Room Clerk is responsible for safely and securely transporting all elections mail including returned ballot packets. The clerks must be attentive to detail and handle high volumes of time sensitive tasks. The clerk will organize, deliver, and receive time sensitive mail. The clerk will utilize specialized machines to open envelopes according to standardized processes and procedures.
Job Duties
- Participates in completing daily mail routes.
- Uses electronic mail opening machinery to open items.
- Organizes trays and auditing paperwork for transfer to the ballot processing boards.

Ballot Tabulation Center Adjudicator
Adjudicators in the Ballot Tabulation Center partner and work closely with a team member from a differing political party to determine a voter's intent on ballots with marks that are unrecognized by tabulators. The Ballot Tabulation Center Adjudicator is attentive to detail and works well with others.
Job Duties
- Works in teams of two representing different political affiliations (e.g. Republican and Democrat).
- Works on computer to determine voter’s intent.

Ballot Tabulator Inspector
Inspectors in the Ballot Tabulation Center oversee decisions between adjudication teams from differing political parties. The Inspector must be a registered voter that is either registered as Independent or is not affiliated with any political party, is attentive to detail, and works well with others.

- Works as the mediator for Adjudication teams.
- Must be registered to vote as Independent or not affiliated with a political party.

Operators in the Ballot Tabulation Center process ballots using a tabulation machine and prepare ballots for storage. Operators are attentive to detail and work well with others.

Warehouse Workers

Warehouse Positions
Ballot Couriers
Ballot Couriers are responsible for retrieving early ballots from ballot drop boxes throughout Maricopa County and securely delivering them to the Elections Department for processing. The Ballot Courier partners and travels with a team member from a differing political party.
Job Duties
- Retrieves ballots from Ballot Drop Boxes and securely delivers them to the Elections Department for processing.
- Completes a chain-of-custody form that is signed by a Polling Location or Vote Center Inspector to ensure the lawful hand-off and transportation of ballots.
- A peer audit is conducted when ballots arrive at the Elections Department and ballots are prepared for transport to Runbeck.
Working conditions
Warehouse Driver
Truck drivers are responsible for ensuring that elections equipment and supplies are delivered to multiple voting locations throughout Maricopa County in a timely manner. Drivers are further responsible for inspecting, preparing and loading equipment to be loaded on trucks. At voting locations, drivers are responsible for unloading trucks along with some set up tasks at voting locations.
Job Duties
- Operates a fleet of 16-to-24-foot box-trucks with lift gates to replenish labels, pallet stacks, loads/unloads trailers, moves stowed products to various locations.
- Transports equipment and items to and from Polling Locations and Vote Centers.
Working conditions
Warehouse Worker
Warehouse workers are primarily responsible for setting up voting locations and ensuring that voting locations are fully operational. The warehouse worker must be meticulous in the performance of all aspects of vote center set up, optimizing and operational testing.
Job Duties
- Responsible for working in collaboration with T-Tech to set up Vote Centers and Polling Locations.
- Supports other warehouse functions such as checking equipment in and out, lifting and stacking inventory, and general warehouse maintenance.
- Fulfills and organizes orders to ensure vote centers have adequate equipment and ensures the delivery process is efficient and accurate.
- Support couriers with transport and/or auditing.
- Support other areas as needed.
Working conditions
T-Tech
The T-tech is responsible for the technical set up of voting locations and serves as the primary responder for technical issues that arise during an election cycle. The T-Tech works closely with other support staff to ensure that check in stations are communicating properly, printers are functioning and that network and power cabling is properly configured.
Job Duties
- Works in collaboration with Troubleshooters and Poll Workers to set up Vote Centers and Polling Locations prior to opening for Election Activities.
- Supports troubleshooting efforts throughout the election cycle and equipment security and retrieval activities at the close of Election Day.
- Prepares and retrieves information and enters/updates information in reports, logs, or other documentation/record-keeping systems.
- Analyzes programs to ensure prompt problem resolution and ticket closure.
- Performs laptop software and hardware installations, configurations, repairs, and ongoing support.
