Maricopa County Recorder Settles Lawsuit and Takes Action to Ensure Election Integrity
PHOENIX, AZ – Last week, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office reached a settlement with America First Legal and the Strong Communities Foundation regarding their lawsuit to ensure noncitizens are not included on voter rolls. This agreement marks a significant step in maintaining the integrity of elections in Maricopa County.
As part of its commitment to election integrity, the Recorder’s Office has initiated communications with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Office is seeking assistance to verify the citizenship status of registered voters who have not provided Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC). This action aligns with Arizona law and underscores the Recorder’s responsibility to maintain accurate voter registration rolls.
These efforts are consistent with President Trump’s Executive Order 14248, issued on March 25, 2025, which emphasizes preserving and protecting the integrity of American elections. By ensuring only eligible voters participate in elections, the Recorder’s Office continues to uphold its dedication to transparency and fairness.
“I promised the voters of Maricopa County that I would pursue every avenue to clean up our voter rolls, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Ensuring only citizens can cast a ballot in future elections is essential to restoring trust in Maricopa County elections. It is my sincere hope that DHS will respond affirmatively and provide the resources we need to run comprehensive checks of our voter registration system against their non-citizen database. 'One citizen, one vote' isn’t just a slogan, it is the right of every American citizen,” mentioned Recorder Justin Heap.
